New edition of Clinical Management of COPD Published

Clinical Management of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is targeted to primary care physicians and reviews differential diagnosis, pathogenesis, clinical management of COPD, specific treatment regimens, treatment of acute exacerbations, goals of therapy, prognosis, nonpharmacologic management, and smoking cessation. The main focus of the text is pharmacologic treatment of COPD. Detailed information on the medications employed in treatment is presented, including information on their efficacy, unique pharmacology, and selection of appropriate patient for their use. In addition, results of major clinical trials for these agents are reviewed in detail. Pertinent clinical issues encountered by primary care practitioners in the management of COPD are also discussed. Relevant consensus statements and guidelines on the treatment of this condition are presented.

The author line-up for this book includes two internationally known pulmonologists and a family practice physician who specializes in COPD and provides the primary care perspective on the content. William MacNee, MD is Professor of Respiratory and Environmental Medicine at the University of Edinburgh and past President of the European Respiratory Society.
